CNC Milling Parts Finishes

For material and application-specific projects, we offer a comprehensive list of surface finishes, which include:

Natural, regularly arranged cutting tool marks. According to the specific materials and cutting tools used, they may appear with different patterns and visual effects. The surface is quite smooth, which can achieve a Ra  0.8 ~ 1.6 µm. For non-critical or decorative parts, it’s totally usable. It’s also the most cost-effective and fast turnaround option.

We offer Type Ⅱ and Type Ⅲ for aluminum and titanium milled parts. For purposes include enhance cooriance resisance, wear resistance, and decoration(different colors available).

Our plating options include chrome plating, zinc plating, and nickel plating, which are typically applied to enhance visual appearance and the ability to withstand harsh environments, such as humid or seawater.

Powder coating offers more protection for the CNC milling parts with a thick layer of plastic attached closely to the surface. This isolates the metal from the environment, preventing it from corrosion and impact. Typically, the plastics are thermosetting, such as Epoxy, Polyester, and Hybrid. We can also customise plastic powder to meet your specific needs.

We offer both sand and bead blasting for either deburring or surface enhancement needs.

For series number, part number, and brand logo etching needs, we offer laser engraving options available on the surface of different metals.

What is CNC Milling

CNC Milling, named for the “milling” process, involves the use of rotary cutting tools to remove material from a workpiece, achieving precise shapes and features. Here’s a closer look at the specifics of CNC milling:

  • Why “Milling”?: The term “milling” refers to the process of grinding or cutting material with a rotating tool, which differs from turning where the part is rotated. In milling, the tool rotates at high speeds to cut materials into the desired form and dimensions.
  • Characteristics of Milling: CNC milling machines can operate on multiple axes (3-axis, 4-axis, or 5-axis mills), providing versatility to create complex geometries and deep cuts with high precision. The multi-axis setup allows the machine to move the tool in various directions, offering detailed and intricate machining capabilities.
  • Suitable Shapes and Parts: This process is ideal for producing parts with detailed features such as slots, holes, notches, and contours. CNC milling is highly effective for functional prototypes, engine components, and complex mechanisms, which require precise and repeatable cuts.

  • Limitations: Despite its capabilities, CNC milling has limitations, including the initial setup cost, which can be high. The process also requires expert programming and operation to maximize efficiency and quality. Additionally, the geometry of a part may limit tool access, making certain areas challenging to machine.
  • Recent Developments: Advances in CNC technology include improvements in software algorithms that enhance tool paths for faster and more efficient milling. There is also a growing integration of automation and AI to optimize the milling process further, reducing waste and increasing production speeds.

CNC milling continues to evolve, integrating new technologies to meet the demands of modern manufacturing. Its ability to produce complex parts with high precision makes it indispensable in today’s industrially diverse landscape.
