What is OBJ File?

OBJ is a widely used 3D model file format that was first developed by Wavefront Technologies. Separate OBJ files only store the geometry data of the static model, such as vertices, face normals and texture coordinates, and do not support animation, bones or texture materials. It is usually used in conjunction with MTL files, which are used to associate the material properties of the model.

OBJ directly uses the same ASCII encoding as normal text, and the data can be viewed and modified directly with a text editor. For this reason, almost all 3D software supports OBJ files (e.g. Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush, and game engines Unity, Unreal Engine).

Applications of OBJ File

OBJ files are used in a wide range of applications. It can export high-precision mesh models for 3D printing model slices, and can also be used to import static scene models in game development.

Since almost all 3D software supports the 3D format, it is also commonly used to transfer models between different software.

FAQ

This previewer is built using Three.JS technology, and your files will not be uploaded to any server. All data processing is done within your browser. If you are concerned about file leakage, you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads to use this previewer, and reconnect once the preview is complete.

No, this is just a previewer, and does not support editing of OBJ files. You can edit 3D files using online tools such as Sumo, Figuro and Spline.

The size of the OBJ model file that can be previewed depends on the performance of your device.
